Difficult conversations: Can we talk about grief? Sometimes, less is more.”

$25.00

This MasterClass will offer a friendly and lighthearted discussion on a topic that affects us all. The intent is not to share grief stories, but to introduce the topic of grief in a gentle way so as to make ourselves more grief aware and, as a result, more supportive to others and our own families.

Grief can occur over many types of losses such as loss of role, loss of abilities, or just plain aging.

Presented by Dr. Tony Galanos “Dr. G”

Dr. Tony Galanos, or “Dr. G,” is a professor of Medicine at Duke University, where he teaches the seminar “Grief 101” in the School of Medicine. As a palliative care physician who pioneered Duke’s Palliative Care program in 1998, Dr. G has extensive experience guiding patients and families through serious, often difficult conversations. He specializes in “empathic communication,” a skill he lectures on at Duke, highlighting the challenges of truly empathic exchanges in healthcare. Recognizing that everyone will encounter grief, Dr. G focuses on how communication—whether supportive or damaging—can profoundly impact the grieving process. In addition to his teaching, he works part-time providing debriefs to medical teams following emotionally challenging events.
